Dasara 2007

Dasara is the day when people celebrate the victory of truth over evil. Legends say that a goddess slew a demon on Vijayadashmi day. Dasara has 9 nights and 10 days. In Karnataka, it is observed as the state festival. It is steered by the Royal family of Mysore. They do a special pooja on the occasion f Dasara.

On the first day, people get dolls and display them. All types of dolls are displayed. On the second day, it is girls day. The Sarasvathi pooja takes place on the seventh day of dasara, but we did it on the ninth. On the ninth day, we celebrate the materials from inside the earth that make life easier, like oil and metal and how we use those materials, like in bikes or cars. The tenth day is the last day we celebrate Dasara. On the tenth day, we put away the dolls. There is a grand procession in Mysore on the tenth day. It starts at the Mysore Palace and ends in Bannimantap.

I celebrated Dasara. First I put some flowers on Goddess Sarasvathi.I really liked it .I wanted to put them on the sides. Then I rang a bell. Swathi did it first. It was fun. Then listened to Anna and that was my least favorite part. I did lots of other things for the pooja. It was really, really fun. Then I played a little bit on the computer. Then I decorated my bike and squashed a lemon it. I watched Anna squash Amma’s and his own lemon. It was really cool and fun. It was the shortest pooja I ever saw.

I started my mrudunga{indian drum}classes on vijjayadashmi day.It is an auspicious day to start learning to play a musical instrument.
